The Texas Association of Parent Educators (TAPE) is a Texas based organization that has formed local and regional networks with Parent Educators. The local networks consist of professional parent educators from many different fields, for example, education, medical, counseling, therapy, child care, and law enforcement that network, support and collaborate with the Center for Parent Education and each other. The upcoming TAPE On-line workshop is open to all TAPE members and offers continuing education credits for any new members who join before July 23, 2008.

2. In 2004, Texas reported 178,511 marriages and 81,324 divorces, affecting 62,380 children. The south has the highest divorce rate anywhere in our nation! On September 1, 2008, Texas House Bill 2685 will come into effect, raising the cost of marriage license fees from $30 to $60, creating an incentive for couples to enroll in premarital education classes.

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission has implemented a program called Twogether in Texas that will provide FREE premarital education classes to couples anticipating marriage. A certificate of completion will be given after 8 hours of research-based instruction, which will waive the $60 marriage license fee and the 72-hour waiting period before marriage eligibility. The classes will cover communication skills, conflict management, and key components of a successful marriage.
